Tea Snack - Roasted Fox Nuts

Fox nuts is a low calorie food. It contains 1cup (32 gm) = 111Cal

What is Fox nuts?
Fox nuts is also called dried lotus seeds or phool makhana. They are lotus flower's seed. It is grown in water and is largely found in India. It tastes a bit like popcorn but it is more tasty and healthy. 

What are the health benefits of Makhana?
Makhana is rich in calcium, protein, carbohydrates, fibre, magnesium, iron, phoshorus, potassium, satuated fats and zinc.They are High in fiber and low in calories, it enables weight loss. They have anti aging property. 

You don’t need to feel guilty while you munch these super healthy crispy and crunchy roasted phool makhana with your evening cup of Kadambri green tea. You can give it to kids when they are back from school. These are the best alternative of kurkure, chips.

Serving Size: 15 to 20 makhana per day per person. ( Excessive consumption of lotus seed may lead to constipation )

Ingredients:
Phool Makahana - 1 bowl
Desi ghee - 1&1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste

Method:
1. Heat ghee in a Kadhai, add the makhana and start roasting it for 10 mins on low gas flame.
2. Pop bigger makhana and check it should be crispy then its done else roast for some more time. When it's done add salt and mix well and turn off gas flame. Makhana is ready to be served with a cup of tea.
3. Cool down completely and store in airtight container.

My Notes:
*If you are planning to roast in bulk then roast it in batches so that they evenly roasted and puffed.
*Store them in a airtight container only when they cool down completely.
*During the entire recipe gas flame should be low.
*You can add black pepper– ¼ tsp with saIt and it's called Makhana masala muchies. Salt and pepper also goes well with this namkeen. I added only salt because my kid don't want pepper.
*You can roast these makhanas for fast ( vrat) also. Just replace Table salt with Sendha Namak.
*You can roast these makhanas without desi ghee, If you want to avoid fat completely. For kids, I always recommend Desi ghee.
